The experience behind OMNI began in 1978, working across electrical assembly, wiring and instrumentation before establishing OMNI Controls in 1986, specializing in the fabrication of custom electrical control panels, motor controls and instrumentation.

In 1997, that expertise moved into the airfield lighting industry through Platinum Electrical Assemblies Ltd., which became the original Canadian warehousing, assembly, shipping and receiving operation for Siemens Airfield products.

For the years that followed, the work extended across virtually every stage of airfield product production and support — from interpreting drawings and fabricating components to assembling, testing, repairing, servicing, warehousing and distributing airfield lighting equipment.

Products included fibre optic signs, circuit select panels, PAPIs, wig-wags, elevated and inset lighting equipment, and a wide range of airfield fixtures and assemblies. Experience also extended beyond the shop floor to field installations at Toronto Pearson International Airport, providing firsthand knowledge of how airfield lighting products perform in real operating environments.

When Siemens Airfield became part of ADB, the relationship continued, providing the same manufacturing, assembly and warehousing services. Following ADB's acquisition of Liberty Airport Systems in 2016 and the subsequent consolidation of warehousing operations, Platinum continued assembling incandescent airfield lighting fixtures through 2025.

After decades spent manufacturing, assembling, servicing and working with airfield lighting products, the next step was to develop something of our own.

OMNI Airfield Markers was created in 2026 to bring that experience directly to the airfield through products designed with a practical understanding of how airports operate.

Today, OMNI manufactures and assembles two specialized airfield marking solutions: the Edge Light Marker and the Type 910823 Retro-Reflective Taxi Marker.

Both products are the result of decades spent understanding airfield equipment not simply from a catalogue or drawing, but from the perspective of the people who build it, assemble it, install it, maintain it and depend on it.
